3 十大彩票平台 wrestlers recognized for academic excellence
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Three Springfield Technical Community College student-athletes were named to the National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Academic Team for 2021-2022.
The NWCA honored twin brothers Ricardo and Stephano Magny, both of Brookline, and William Randall of Springfield. They exceeded the minimum GPA (3.2) to qualify. The NWCA recognizes student-athletes who are in their second year, said wrestling coach Alberto Nieves.
“I’m proud of them for staying focused on their academic work while competing as wrestlers,” Nieves said.
十大彩票平台, the most affordable college in Springfield, offers top notch degree and certificate programs that put students on the path to a career or an opportunity to transfer to a four-year institution. 十大彩票平台 is the only technical community college in Massachusetts.
Randall is studying Landscape Design and Management Technology.
“I definitely didn’t think I was ever going to get it, so it’s pretty cool,” he said.
Randall captured second place in the 285 pound weight class when he competed in the National Collegiate Wrestling Association (NCWA) Northeast Conference Championship in February.
The men’s and women’s teams brought home their fifth consecutive conference title.
“I never thought I’d go back and wrestle and make it as far as I did, and then get an academic award for it. It’s something I’m really proud of,” Randall said.
The Magny brothers, who were born in Haiti, are studying Mechanical Engineering Technology. They said they were excited to receive the award.
Competing in the Northeast Conference Championship in February, Stephano placed second in the 197 pound weight class, while Ricardo captured sixth place in the 184 pound weight class.
In March, the men’s and women’s wrestling teams finished in sixth place after competing in the NCWA National Championships.
Stephano Magny came in eighth place in his weight class and was named All-American, a classification for top finishers. Four other wrestlers came home as All-Americans: Dylan Beddow of Agawam; Michael Gonzalez of Naples, Fla.; Justin Perez of Holyoke; and Shawn Conniff of Wrentham.
